2011-12 Season Cancelled

Chamber Music PLUS (CMP) Board of Directors and Sanda Schuldmann, Executive Director of CMP, announce the cancellation of the organization’s signature series, its 2011-2012 RHYTHMS OF LIFE, held at the Berger Center for the Performing Arts,

Co-founded and run by the Clark-Schuldmann Duo, cellist Harry Clark & pianist Sanda Schuldmann, CMP has forty consecutive seasons of continuous programming — thirty-two in Connecticut, eight in Arizona, and six of these seasons the two-some shuttled back and forth between Connecticut and Arizona doing concurrent series in both states.

Clark and Schuldmann both came to the same realization that they need a year’s hiatus, a year’s sabbatical to reconsider their futures, to re-invigorate themselves for that future, and ultimately to re-configure how and what they will present here in Tucson, coupled with the increasing opportunities that are opening up for their unique programs nationwide.

Bo Saxberg, CMP’s Board President, says of the year’s hiatus:
Though we pre-sold more advanced subscriptions than ever before for the 2011-12 season, and we thank our audience for this clear demonstration of appreciation, the economic reality of state, regional and foundation funding here in Arizona is nearing zero. This makes it nearly impossible to maintain the level of excellence in our local performances that our Arizona audiences have become accustomed to, and that we hold ourselves to deliver. As a result of the quality of their work, Harry and Sanda are exploring several exciting, demanding and potentially prominent national opportunities opening to them, and they will need this year to develop these opportunities. We fully expect this year of transformation and renewal will only make CMP stronger and more viable as a local and national arts organization. Our board is 100% in favor of this re-grouping and re-shaping of this four decades old organization. We look forward to being part of the re-imagining of what Harry and Sanda bring to each and every performance.

Sanda Schuldmann adds: We ended last season in Tucson on as high a note as one might imagine: André Watts and Michael York in a world premiere of Harry’s, which was also a success at this summer’s Ravinia Festival outside of Chicago. We wish to remain at that high level, and so we need a bit of breathing room to look at the options available to do so that make sense for all concerned. We fully intend to keep our loyal and dedicated audience abreast of our adventures and to provide you with information on all future local performances. We hope you will take pride in knowing that you helped us get to where we are and will cheer us on in the future.

All season ticket holders will be fully refunded in the next few weeks.
We thank you for your patronage.

Founded and led by cellist and artistic director Harry Clark, and pianist and executive director Sanda Schuldmann, the duo has successfully proven that with creativity, clever production, and skillful presentation the art of classical music and jazz can thrive in modern times.

For the past twelve seasons the organization has created a new art form– Rhythms of LIFE – working with the finest musicians, actors and directors to invigorate and reinvent classical and jazz presentation, bringing to life in compelling and singular fashion the powerful and personal stories of the artists that audiences want to know more about.

In chamber, theater and orchestral settings, Rhythms of LIFE productions have graced such diverse stages as New York’s Apollo Theater, Albuquerque’s National Hispanic Cultural Center, Yale’s New Haven Battell Chapel, and now proudly in Tucson and the Phoenix area.
